Adel's city code is online, but we couldn't read the sidewalk snow section on the city's code site, so we haven't put a deadline on this page. Check with the City of Adel before you rely on a specific number of hours.
What the City of Adel says about sidewalks
- We could not confirm Adel's sidewalk snow deadline on an official city source. The city code is linked from the City of Adel city code page.
- Until you've confirmed the rule with the city, a safe habit is to clear the full width of the public sidewalk in front of (and beside, on a corner lot) your property soon after the snow stops.
Hiring help in Adel
If you hire a company, make sure the agreement covers the public sidewalk (and, on a corner lot, the side walk and curb ramps), says how soon they'll come after the snow stops, and matches the city's deadline above. Ask what de-icer they use: Iowa State University Extension says rock salt works best above 15°F and that salt buildup can injure turfgrass, trees and shrubs. Our guide to choosing a snow removal company has a full checklist.
Iowa has no state license for snow removal. For lawn treatments, anyone in the business of applying pesticides (including weed and insect control) to other people's property needs an IDALS commercial applicator license; each listing below shows what we could verify.

Frequently asked questions
How long do I have to clear my sidewalk in Adel?
We couldn't confirm the deadline on an official city source, so check with the City of Adel (see the city code page on adeliowa.gov) before you rely on a specific number of hours.
Do Des Moines-area companies serve Adel?
Some do. A company is listed below only if its own website names Adel or shows an office there.
Does a lawn care company in Adel need a license?
Not for snow removal or mowing: Iowa has no state license for those. A company that applies fertilizer with weed control, insect control or other pesticides to your lawn needs an IDALS commercial applicator license. Each listing on this page says whether we found a matching, unexpired company record.
